Beware of odors

On the treestand

The smell of your body is easily transmitted through your hands on the steps of your ladder when you climb on your treestand. In deer bowhunting this harmless gesture is of the utmost importance.

Like most deer bowhunters, I take great care to eliminate any odor when it comes to hunting whitetails. I wash my hunting clothes in a special soap to remove all scent that deer could detect.

I take a shower every day before the hunt with a special soap to eradicate all body odors.
Please wear gloves

Wear gloves when you climb on your treestand. Wear gloves when you use your rope to get your bow on the treestand. If necessary spray your gloves with a Scent Killer spray to eliminate all odors.

There is no way of knowing if you leave any human scent to your hunting site or on your treestand. You must take bold steps to eliminate them at the start.
