Big game hunters
I really think we, the ''big game hunters'' can have more power over decisions that affect us. Currently the big game hunters are particularly scattered throughout the province.
The only time they come together somewhat, it is when buying their license or by the time they register their game.
There are umbrella organizations for hunters, but for any reason whatsoever the hunters have deserted over time. The Fédération Québécoise des Chasseurs et Pêcheurs which once accounted for more than 170 000 members, has now fewer than 2 000 members and this figure is steadily declining.
Had it not been the income from the safety courses and government grants, the FédéCP would have disappeared long ago, because its membership, as the years went on melted like snow in the sun.
Hunters are powerless
Hunters are powerless because hunting is an individual sport. When people retire prestige from their sport, they tend to act individually.
Who has not heard a hunter bragging about the sport of hunting. This individual has no interest to come together.
Hunters are powerless because they do not regroup. I often surf the internet examining the various ''fédérations'' that show themselves on the web. Outfitters, zec, ATV riders, soccer players, school boards, municipalities, and women are all coming together, even the students that we have been hearing about for over 10 weeks.
Why not hunters ? Do all these people have more power ? I'll let you judge for yourself.
Then maybe you will go and sign your application to join the Association des chasseurs de gros gibiers du Québec, (ACGGQ) more spontaneously.
